Over the last few years, more than 800 million Indian citizens with Ration Cards have benefited from this plan. Although the government had fixed out the maturity of this Yojana till September of 2022, the government is planning to continue it. Regarding this, there are different reasons. PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana
This PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is a scheme started by Atmanirbhar Bharat to supply free food services. India’s government has been supplying free food grains to migrants and the poor since April 2020 under this Yojana. Besides, with time the central government split this Yojana into different phases.
Phase I of this Yojana was in operation from April to June 2022. Phase II began from July to November of the same year; similarly, the government will continue Phase III from May to June 2021.
Likewise, Phase IV began from July to November 2021, and Phase V began from December 2021 to March 2022.
Till now, the last and final Scheme, Phase VI, was from April to September 2022. after this, Phase VI will also come to an end. After this, no clear intention was seen to continue PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. But the many sources are clear the government is extending and reoperating this plan by Phase VII soon.

Objectives of PM Garib Kalyan Yojana
This Scheme will benefit more than 81.35 citizens holding the Ration card. The beneficiary will get the food grains for a particular duration. With this plan, the central government provides 5kg of free wheat/rice per person/month. Also, as supplemental, the government gives each family 1kg free chana (Gram).
The main objective of PM Garib Kalyan Yojana is to contribute to the migrants and poor citizens of the country. By operating this plan, the government is supplying the free food chain Yojana in different Phases to the backward and Poor families of the country.
Besides, this Yojana is essential in reducing the social evils of starvation and poverty. Also, there might be other psychological and political reasons behind this Scheme.

PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Benefits
Under the National Food Security Act 2013, the government has implemented this PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. With this Yojana, more than 81.35 Indian citizens holding the Ration Card benefited from the previous Phase. The last Phase VI, from April to September 2022, would entail an estimated expense of around 80,000 crores for the government.
To provide food to the country’s poor citizens, the government is expanding such a considerable amount of money. Regarding this high expense, many times, the different bodies of government ask to terminate to control the loss on the economy too.

Depending upon the state you live in or desire, the government provides a 5kg free wheat or Rice to each Ration Holder. The 6 states of India – Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Gujrat are allocated with Wheat and the rest with Rice.
Eligibility for PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana
To be eligible for this PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, one must meet the specific guidelines. Here’s
- The family/ people must have a Ration Card.
- Families and people belong below the poverty line. Under this, Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Households (PHH) are included.
- Widow, terminally ill or physically disabled person, or people aged above 60 years as per certificate or ID
- All of the primitive tribal households and victims of HIV
- Marginal farmers, rural artisans, potters, tanners, carpenters, and others below the poverty line are eligible for this Yojana.
